Distribution of 10 Kgs Rice to PALIYAR families and 3ply face masks to combat Covid-19

Welcome to our blog post. We have started with the distribution of 10Kgs rice to all the family members as an initial measure. Even excess quantities too were distributed depending on the family strength. Along with the Rice distribution face masks too were in our scheduled programme.

Essential Distribution

Rice were packed in bags of 10kgs capacity and distributed to all along with 3ply face masks.

As per our earlier survey report taken nearly 27 families of Paliyar tribal community irrespective of the members whether joint or single, were targeted for the supply of 10kgs rice packed in gunny bags and polybags. They were distributed with the help of our trustees, joint secretary and treasurer. Besides the distribution of 10kgs of rice additional excess quantities were distributed within the ethnic group itself.

Once after the rice distribution face masks to combat covid-19 were also distributed to all the family members at the count of 2masks per member.

How it happened

It all started on a partial rainy day but the weather gods pitied us by staying calm for the entire event except for partial clouds here and there. Kadamalaigundu, Muthalamparai is just a drive away of 41kms from Theni with picturesque landscapes throughout its way. But we never stopped to admire the beauty as we were running short of time and were already late as we started in the noon at around 3.30pm and were supposed to reach at 5.00pm. Our trustees, joint secretary and treasurer accompanied for this event. As we were towards the rendezvous we were repeatedly getting calls from Muthuvelayai a woman from the Paliyar community to make our presence asap. We made it to the venue without even taking a break and when we landed we were able to see the glee over the face of the kids and the villagers coming forward to welcome with open hands. We felt the true love which we were unable to discover from the community members of our town.

A warm welcome

A warm welcome with open hands.

As soon as we landed; from nowhere the crowd of all the age groups gathered. They were very keen to listen to us and in making arrangements for the event. Some were sweeping the floors and some got engaged in tying our banners. None were at their homes as they grouped outside for the rice distribution event and some even turned volunteers too. So the distribution started and it just took an hour for the entire event to get completed. Finally with a short speech we concluded promising to reach them for the upcoming festival and left left half hearted.
